Our Purpose at New Hope Chapel

New Hope Chapel exists to point people to Jesus Christ so that they might

Know the love of God, Live in the love of God, and Share the love of God.

What do we mean by that?

Know the Love of God. When someone believes that Jesus is the Son of God who died and rose again, they become a new creation. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in them, and continually teaches and guides as they move forward in their new life. Believers are adopted into God’s family, with all the privileges and blessings that come with that position (see Ephesians 1). Everything that saved us was not of our own efforts, but completed by Christ alone.

Live in the Love of God. Once we have new life, we want to live out what we have received. Jesus said that the most important commandments were “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and secondly, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” God’s love for us is unconditional, and not because we have earned it. Our lives become an overflow of the abundant grace, mercy, and forgiveness that we have been given. Jesus told His disciples, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8 NASB).

What has God given us? Love, Grace, Mercy, and Compassion. So our interactions with others should reflect those things.

  • Love, in choosing the good of others even at a sacrifice to ourselves.
  • Grace, giving unmerited favor
  • Mercy, forgiving even when someone does not deserve it
  • Compassion, expressing sympathy and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

There is so much to know about God. As we grow in knowledge, it will eventually lead to spiritual maturity. God is always at work in us to bring us to conform us to the image of Christ. (Philippians 1:6).

Share the Love of God. Simply living for God is something that will stand out in a world still living in darkness. Our lives and our relationship with Christ are our biggest witness to the saving power of Jesus.  Peter encouraged us to “be ready with an answer” when people want to know what makes us different.
